It’s been a busy, stressful week – one full of bad eating choices. One also full of not making the effort to work out other than a few yoga poses here and there. But, it seems I am getting started, with something, anyway. I just need to force myself to stick with it.
My goals for the coming week are to continue with the yoga, and add cardio when/wherever I can.
I’m also thinking of investing in a few things to help along the way, so I appreciate any experience/opinion you’ve had with any:
Wii Fit Plus. It’s got a bunch of different workout options, but I am undecided on this, since I already have a few exercise dvds and FitTV. I feel like I would better benefit from spending the money elsewhere. But then again, the Wii Fit will monitor me and make sure I am doing things correctly.
Skechers Shape-ups. (Action Packed for me, I think) I know you can’t wear them to really work out in. But I am on my feet for HOURS every day, and feel like I could benefit there from better posture and proper alignment, and it helps to tone muscles. I’ll also be walking outside as soon as the weather is warm enough. Almost everyone that I know of who has used these (or something similar) says they can feel them working; only one person has said they wouldn’t spend money on them.
Workout-specific clothes. I’ve never invested in these before, because the workout specific clothing I’ve seen is so expensive. Besides that, sports bras and I just do NOT get along. I know the material of such clothing is supposed to hold shape and wick moisture away, but that’s just not enough for me to invest in much of it. But now? Merona has a line of pants, in the shape of yoga pants (which I still love, shut up!) that are pretty sturdy and look like you could go from yoga or working out, straight to lunch or shopping or whatever. There are lots of cute, casual knit capris, too. And, while they’re not cheap, there are plenty of workout clothes out there that look just like casual, regular clothes. I thought it might motivate me to keep at the working out if I had clothes that were designed specifically to move with the body while working out. But I still love my leggings, skorts/short shorts, and t shirts, too.
So, workout clothes: necessity or frivolity?
Now I’ve got to get ready (and do a few yoga poses) and head out to work. I put off getting the car serviced, so that’s got to be done after work. And thus starts my non-stop weekend.
Thanks to Chelle for Fitness Friday inspiration!

I do not have wii fit plus though I have heard great things about it as it measures your intensity which would be cool.
I have running pants and a sports bra. The pants are great because they never get wet (very humid here in the summer) and I sweat like mad running. The bra is almost a must have for me.
I always just wear a comfy T shirt though.
Once i hit a specific weight I am going to buy myself new work out gear just to feel good and special as a reward for hard work

@chelle: thanks for the pingback! And also for the heads-up on the running pants. My thighs have a TERRIBLE chafing problem, so I think I am going to at least need some leggings. I understand the logic behind those fugly biker shorts now, though
I think specific workout gear would serve as a motivator for me, too.

I have Skechers Shapeups. It’s been too snowy here to wear them for more than one 30-minute walk outside
but I have been wearing them to run errands and stuff since I got them. A friend of mine said she went down 1 pants size by wearing them when walking. I’m hoping for the same result.

@Melisa: do you think it was the walking that brought her down the pants size, or the shoes? I am not walking outdoors yet, but I figure since I stand all day at my job, they would help me there if nothing else.
I hope for those same results, too! Something is always better than nothing, right?
