Monday is off to a nerve-wracking start, but thankfully it will be over soon enough! I just got through removing junk mail and old bills & statements off my desk and either organizing/storing or disposing of them properly. Let me tell you, that was a job! And I do still have one more “keep” pile waiting for me to go through when I get home this evening, but it’s mainly extraneous holiday cards which haven’t been put in the boxes yet, and the past month’s bills and statements. I am usually pretty diligent about organization and I have a GREATorganizing system/method going, but my desk has been a wreck for a few months now.
This is a storage tip I picked up while watching HGTV’s “Mission: Organization” back when that came on:
Only have a fiile cabinet for more permanent things, such as medical/dental, mortgage, and auto papers, etc, but keep a 13-pocket expanding file folder specifically for monthly statements & receipts. At the end of the year, these files can be tossed in a larger bin and stored in a closet.
I love this, because I’ve got my permanent files where they are basically undisturbed, but can easily be fetched if I need them, or added to if I need to. (And part of my very cool retro desk, at that!) Then all the monthly stuff is in my closet, if I need it, arranged by year and month. It really couldn’t be simpler.
Since I’m trying to turn a new leaf and all that, I made myself start tackling it when I got back from dropping the boys off at school this morning, instead of taking a nice, leisurely nap. I’m tired now, but it does feel good to have some of it done.
So….today is the day that I begin logging my food in earnest, and tonight will be the night that I break out the Gazelle and exercise on it for an hour while I watch Life Unexpected. Is anyone else watching this show? Does anyone else love it as much as I do? I figure the only way I am going to get this kind of aerobic exercise right now is to do it indoors while I watch a favorite tv show or movie. When the weather gets warmer, of course I’ll get out and AT LEAST walk in my driveway. And as I get more things done around the house, I’ll be adding more variety to the workouts.
I guess I need to get up and start my day. I have a few errands to run before my shift at work, so I’d best be at it!
Oh, and if you follow me on Twitter, then you know I blipped a lot while doing housework yesterday, and then tweeted like crazy during the Grammys last night (I was SO delighted that the Zac Brown Band won an award! I really figured they were going to be the redheaded stepchildren of the Grammys like they were at the CMAs. I don’t like much country these days, but I do like them. A LOT!). Here’s a random playlist from the weekend!

@Jade: Eh, it’s going okay, I guess. I could be doing a lot better, but haven’t really done bad, either. It’s definitely enlightening, though, and that’s exactly what I need to stay on track!

*LOVE* the Zac Brown Band! We live one town south of their hometown here in North Georgia.
